The play revolves around Gail, Salty, and Hobby; three 5th form students who, through their end-of-term school play, tell the hilarious story of Mr. Nixon, an idealistic young teacher in his first few weeks at a local comprehensive school.
The roles of these three are extremely demanding and require actors of exceptional ability: not only do they have to play themselves, but also the other 17 characters in the play.
The roles of Gail and Salty are taken by Rachel Bailey and Gary Leonard respectively. Both are very familiar with The Garrick stage: Rachel was Daisy in Daisy Pulls it Off (November 2018) and Gary took the lead role of Tony Wendice in The Garrick’s first production of this season, Dial M for Murder.
Our newcomer, Luke Crowther, (no relation to the director), who plays Hobby, has recently completed a degree in Performing Arts. He also took the part of Harry Hardcastle in Colne Little Theatre’s production of Love on the Dole. Another member of that cast was his director for this play, Marilyn Crowther.
