* The part of Douglas will be played by Martin O'Brien on Wednesday and Friday, and a Mark Forrer on Thursday and Saturday. They appear by arrangement with Burnley Youth Theatre.

Shadowlands is the story of the relationship between C. S. Lewis, the renowned Oxford tutor and lecturer, and Joy Davidman, an American poet and devotee of Lewis. Lewis was pre-emenent among the literary scholars of his generation. His many publications include religious best sellers and the popular 'Narnia' children's books.

The play originated as an award winning T. V. film and was subsequently made into a successful film for the big screen.

The action is set mainly in Oxford in the 1950s
