The action of the play takes place in the New York apartment of Helene Hanff and in Marks & Co. Booksellers, 84 Charing Cross Road.


Helene Hanff captured the heaps of readers everywhere with 84 Charing Cross Road, the account of her love affair with an antiquarian bookshop in London. She studied playwriting at the Theatre Guild in New York and wrote dramatic scripts in the days of live television. She has written many books, magazine articles and plays and her  broadcasts for BBC Radio's Woman's Hour were published as Letters from New York where she has lived all her adult life.
