The Petition

By Brian Clark

Directed by Geoffrey Pratt

Everyone agrees that the world could, and should, be a safer and better place, but people have always disagreed over how we should achieve this. Now, at last, there's an approach to the problem that brings all reasonable people together.

The Petition says simply - enough is enough. Peace can and will break out -but only when enough voices are raised to demand it. Think about it . Then put YOUR name down for a safer future.

The action of the play takes place in an apartment in Belgravia. The time is 1986.
There will be an interval between Acts One and Two. The action is continuous.

The Petition was first presented on Broadway by the Shubert Organisation, directed by Sir Peter Hall and starring husband and wife team Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy. The play opened at the Royal National Theatre ln London on 28th July 1986, again directed by Peter Hall, this time starring Slr John Mills and Rosemary Harris - later to be replaced by Dame Peggy Ashcroft, to whom the play was dedicated.
