California Suite is composed of four playlets set in rooms 203 and 204 in the Beverley Hills Hotel

ACT TWO

The play was first presented on June 10, 1976. at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, New York. In this production, as the playwright, Neil Simon intended, the characters were all played by four actors. In the subsequent film this was changed, giving roles to stars such as Walter  Mattheau,  Maggie Smith, Michael Caine, Jane Fonda. Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby and Alan Alda. Maggie Smith was given an Academy Award for her performance.
